The Atlanta Concert Ringers, Inc. (ACR), a 501(c)3 organization, is seeking an enthusiastic Artistic Director. Located in Atlanta, Ga., the ACR is a community handbell group consisting of advanced handbell ringers. Duties of the Director include taking charge and directing all regular Thursday night rehearsals (minimum 2 hours), called special rehearsals, and recording sessions. He/she will select the repertoire and will plan and direct all ACR Concerts and performances. He/she will have the final authority and responsibility for the group's appearance, visual presentation, and sound. The Director must be motivated by a love for handbells and have a vision of musical excellence for the group. A negotiable monthly compensation of $250+ with bonuses is available. All Saints’ Lutheran Church in Lilburn, GA is seeking a part time Director of Music.
The required hours are: Sunday worship service: 9:00 am to 12:00 noon; Wednesday: Worship service and Chancel Choir rehearsal: 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Other hours negotiable with Pastor/Choir as needed. Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in music performance or education; experience in choral direction (3-5 years); experience in organ and piano performance; and a committed relationship with Jesus Christ and some familiarity with the basic tenets of the Lutheran Church. Other requirements include: overseeing the existing musical groups of the congregation; providing organ, piano, or keyboard music for all Sunday worship and special services throughout the year (midweek Lenten and Advent; Wednesday Night; Holy Week; and Christmas Eve); directing and accompanying the Chancel Choir; selecting choir anthems appropriate for the service according to the Church’s calendar year with Pastoral approval; conducting and selecting music for the Celebration Band; arranging for substitutes when needed; scheduling care for the church’s musical instruments; providing information on all music to be included in the Order of Service each week and proofread the Order of Service; providing music for special services (weddings, funerals, etc.) and coordinating music with the officiating minister. The church has a Rodgers three-manual organ, a Mason & Hamlin 6’ grand piano and five octaves of English hand bells. The Celebration Band members own guitar, bass guitar, concertina, drum set and keyboard. The church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ECLA) and typically has an attendance of 100 worshippers. The salary offered is $15,000 per year (about 12 hours per week). Central Congregational United Church of Christ, 2676 Clairmont Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30329, is seeing a part-time Director of Music and a part-time Organist/Pianist. Both positions require 20 hours per week.
The Director of Music is responsible for conducting the Sanctuary Choir (about 20 adults), and for leading music in the 11:00 am Sunday morning service (normal attendance 125-150). More contemplative music is performed at the 8:30 am Sunday service (normal attendance (25-35). There is also a Children’s Choir and a beginning Youth musical group. The Director of Music will attend staff meetings and work cooperatively with the staff to ensure that regular worship services, as well as any special services, are coordinated in subject matter and tone. He or she reports and is supervised by the Senior Minister. The church has a 2-manual Schantz organ, designed for and voiced in the sanctuary.
The church is open and affirming and serves persons of diversity. With a keen social conscience, the church has a history of being liberal and active in Mission and Action programs. They seek an energetic and enthusiastic leader and teacher, who loves a variety of musical styles, is ready to meet the challenge of growing and expanding worship through music, and has liberal or progressive Christian theology. He or she will teach and lead choir and congregation in new ways of expressing ideas of justice, mission, and peace.
Qualifications: Advanced skills and significant previous experience in directing a volunteer choir; a Bachelor's Degree in Music is preferred, but not required; must be able to read and interpret musical scores. The salary is approximately $16,000 per year.
