Dalton First Presbyterian Church (PCUSA)
First Presbyterian Church in Dalton, Georgia, is looking for a Director of Music/Organist for a 140-member church with an adult choir of 16 choristers. 20 hours per week, which includes 10 hours weekly planning/administration as well as 10 hours personal practice time and preparation for choir rehearsal and worship service.
The Director of Music is responsible for implementing all aspects of the music ministry, which has a rich history of liturgical worship and fine music. Responsibilities include planning and preparation of appropriate organ/piano and choral music for a weekly Wednesday evening rehearsal, Sunday morning service, special programs or seasonal services, such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, and occasional services such as weddings and funerals. The Director of Music also hires and directs scholarship singers, oversees the director of the children’s choir, handbell choir and the music librarian.
Two-manual, 9-rank organ by Randall Dyer & Associates, Inc. was installed in the fall of 2016.
Candidate should have minimum Bachelor’s degree in music or minor or equivalent experience. Possession of outstanding musicianship capabilities and training: voice, organ/piano and conducting are desired.
Salary and benefits commensurate with education, skills, and experience beginning at $23,000.
