INTERIM CHORAL DIRECTOR

Central Presbyterian Church seeks an Interim Choral Director to serve as a primary worship leader for Central Presbyterian Church for the 2019-2020 church year, collaborating with the Worship Staff (senior pastor and organist) to craft meaningful worship services, providing leadership for the adult choir for regular Sunday and holiday services, and equipping choral ensembles for leadership in occasional services such as Weddings, Memorial services, Funerals, or special events.

The Interim Choir Director works under the supervision of the Pastor. This position requires some flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The position is a part-time, salaried position beginning August 15, 2019 and concluding May 31, 2020, with some negotiation possible as a search for a full-time Director of Music and the Arts unfolds. The hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position and may vary at different times of the year, but are approximately 18 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Participate in Sunday services (11:00 a.m.) and additional holiday services during the liturgical year including, but not limited to Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter.

Rehearse and direct the adult choir (Wednesday evening rehearsals, Sunday mornings, Choir Camp (retreat) and at other times as needed).

Plan (in coordination with the worship staff) music for regular worship services and direct contributors (choir, a soloist, organ, ensemble) in collaborative preparation and worship leadership.

Complete communications and administrative work including arranging for substitute directors when necessary, submitting necessary information for bulletins in a timely fashion as required by the church office, communicating regularly with choir members and staff about rehearsal schedules and special events.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in music required (Master’s degree is strongly preferred). Must demonstrate outstanding proficiency in choral direction. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent organizational and record-keeping skills required.
