Organist/Pianist for 1500-member North Georgia church. Position reports to Director of Music. Position averages 15 hours per week, including up to 10-11 hours of accompanying rehearsals and playing in worship and up to 4-5 hours personal practice time either on- or off-site. Rehearsals and performances for one to two annual festival concerts outside of liturgical services are also rolled into this general 15 hours weekly hours rate. Responsibilities include planning and preparation of appropriate organ (and, at times, piano) music for two weekly traditional Sunday morning services, including Prelude and Postlude and playing hymns; ably and responsively accompanying 40-member Chancel Choir in rehearsal and worship; accompanying any volunteer and professional soloists and instrumentalists for worship; accompanying two children’s choirs and, possibly, a youth choir; devising incidental and improvised music as needed; playing for occasional special church events. Position should be available, generally speaking, for weddings and funerals taking place at Dalton FUMC. (Musician will be compensated for playing each wedding or funeral separate from their salary at a rate of no less than $300 per service.) Finding keyboard subs for worship services and other events in the life of the church will primarily be the responsibility of this position in conjunction with Director of Music. Organist/Pianist should be prepared to run rehearsals and worship services from the bench in planned absences of Director of Music. Our Sanctuary has a 3 manual and pedal pipe organ with 50 ranks.  The organ, Opus 16 was built in 2016 by Parkey OrganBuilders and utilized a number of stops from the 1982 Austin organ. The Great/Pedal Divisions are unenclosed behind the new facades with the Swell and Choir Divisions enclosed in separate expression boxes.  It is also MIDI capable. The organ was part of the renovation to the sanctuary completed in 2016. Piano in sanctuary is a 6’ 9” Kawai GS 60 grand. Musician needs to be fully skilled in both keyboard mediums with experience playing continuo on harpsichord a plus. Candidate should have minimum bachelor’s degree in music, with master’s preferred.
