Back by popular demand, Amethyst performs some outstanding masterpieces with the addition of a few friends of the ensemble.  Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto in F (BWV 1057) and Scarlatti’s cantata E perche non sequito o pastorelle are only part of the program of concertos, cantatas, and other works for a larger Baroque ensemble. Guest musicians Jonathan DeLoach (recorder), Daniel McCarthy (viola d’amore), Ute Marks (violin), Dana Duncan-Davis (violin), Mia Mangano (cello), Kelly Stewart (harp) and Gregory Hamilton (theorbo) join Amethyst Baroque for this orchestral production.

$20 general; $10 for discounted categories; no one turned away due to inability to pay.

Amethyst Baroque Ensemble was formed in 2017 by Athens-based harpsichordist Dr. Alexandra Snyder Dunbar and Atlanta-based recorder player Jody Miller.  Adrin Akins (countertenor) and Marcy Jean Brenner (viola da gamba), who complete the core ensemble, joined the duo in 2018 to share the rich repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries.  The ensemble has collaborated with Daniel McCarthy (viola), Erik Schmalz (sackbut), Macarena Sanchez (cello), Gregory Hamilton (theorbo), and other early music specialists in concerts that range from instrumental sonatas and canzonas to vocal secular and sacred cantatas that are otherwise seldom performed in the region.  Amethyst Baroque has performed as part of concert series at University of North Georgia, Piedmont College, Emmanuel Episcopal Church (Athens), and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (Atlanta), St. Joseph Catholic Church (Macon), and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church (Brevard, NC).
