Jack Mitchener will play the inaugural recital on a new organ at Mercer University in Macon on Sunday, November 9 at 4pm. The performance will be part of the dedication of the new instrument, François Desautels facteur d’orgues, Opus 7, a two manual, mechanical key action, electric stop action, 27-stop, 34-rank, organ built for the rear gallery of Neva Langley Fickling Recital Hall in McCorkle Hall, the music building on the Macon campus. Desautels is an artisan organ builder who apprenticed with Karl Wilhelm and Hellmuth Wolff in Canada. A protégé of Wolff, Desautels builds his instruments in a shop behind his house in Otterburn Park, Québéc, a suburb of Montréal.
The recital will include works of J. S. Bach, Boehm, Brahms, Bridge, Debussy, Richard Elliott, Adolphus Hailstork, Rachel Laurin, and selections from the Livre d’orgue de Montréal.
