JOB DESCRIPTION – Organist/Associate Director of Music, Shallowford Presbyterian Church

RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Play organ/piano for Sunday morning services. Currently: 8:30 am in chapel & 11:00 am in sanctuary
2. Lead and direct all handbell choirs.
3. Lead and direct daytime adult choir.
4. Play for all Youth Choir and Adult Choir rehearsals (accompany and conduct sectional rehearsals).
5. Play for special services, music programs/concerts, funerals/weddings (right of first refusal).
6. Take care of maintenance needs of organs and pianos.
7. Occasional additional duties at the request of the Director of Music
ROLE 1. Lead congregational singing and enhance worship from the keyboard. Assist in worship planning.
2. Develop a vision for the handbell choirs and daytime choir.
3. Be a collaborative artist, accompanying the Youth Choir and Adult Choir.
4. Help fulfill the mission of the church.
5. Aid and support the Director of Music in decisions and artistic trajectory.
INSTRUMENTS
Sanctuary Organ = Casavant, Opus 3912, 38 ranks. 3 manuals. 30 stops. 51 registers. (installed in 2016)
Sanctuary Piano = Yamaha Grand Piano C7 (installed in 2005)
Chapel Organ = 2 manual Allen organ (installed in 2013)
Chapel Piano = Kawai Grand Piano RX2 (installed in 2014)
Choir Room Piano = Kawai Upright Piano P22 (installed in 2016)
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
-bachelor’s degree in music required, master’s degree preferred
-5 years professional experience preferred
SUPERVISION
The organist reports directly to the Director of Music.
HOURS
40 per week
20 hours on campus in worship services/rehearsals
20 hours personal practice and preparation
COMPENSATION
Salary: $52,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience, education, skills
