Christ Church Episcopal, Norcross is seeking, for long-term employment, a part-time organist for its 300-member parish. The position requires an average of 14 hours per week which includes 7 to 9 hours playing one service and accompanying rehearsals, and 5 or more hours of personal preparation and practice for rehearsals and services. The position’s salary includes playing music for special services such as Ash Wednesday, the Triduum, Christmas Eve, and up to three evening choir concerts of a cantata or masterwork with preparation including up to four non-Wednesday 2-hour rehearsals.
The Organist’s primary responsibilities are playing liturgically appropriate preludes and postludes, providing keyboard leadership for congregational singing, and being an attentive accompanist to the music director and choir. Anglican/Episcopal church experience is preferred and a bachelor’s degree in music is desired. The position reports to the Director of Music.
The church’s musical instruments are a 2-manual digital Allen organ, a Kimball baby grand piano, and an electronic rehearsal piano. The salary for this position is $15,000 per year. The organist has right of first refusal for weddings and funerals for additional compensation.
