All of us love music that is joyful, fun, energetic, and full of life. But we are also deeply moved by music that is slow, calm, and serene. Our first concert of the season brings both together, sometimes within a single piece.

One of the featured works is the extraordinary Mass for Double Choir by Swiss composer Frank Martin. Widely regarded as one of the greatest a cappella choral works of the 20th century, it draws on the intricate interplay of vocal lines found in Renaissance music, enriched by warm, rich post-Romantic harmonies. This virtuosic masterpiece alternates seamlessly between moments of serenity and joy, and is, at every turn, simply amazing.
